The idea of content writing has been a strong concept since the beginning of time. What may began as something as simple as writing in your diary or finding a bit of joy in essay assignments at school, can develop overtime into a strong passion for the activity! An ideal reminder of it is there are so many different ways to express yourself through writing and using your voice. If the interest develops into something long-term, you can relieve some of the pressure by knowing that it can be sectioned into a few phases to work through. To explore this notion, let's dive a bit deeper into the 5 Phases of Development for this read -
Phase I. The Initial Research
With all projects that are started, the step before getting the process going is doing the research. When you begin the idea of discussing information or getting your point across through words, the journey starts with finding a variety of information that will assist in discovering your voice. The research includes listening to podcasts, reading books, studying the ones that came before you, and learning about past history along with recent events.
All of the information can become a bit much to learn about as you are continuously digesting information. It is important to decipher key topics that peak your interest, filter the chosen pieces, and silence the excess portions. As the practice of these activities continue to develop, they will become easier to customize in your process. Connecting an interest to a previously written piece is a part of the experience that can not only be fulfilling but inspirational as well! A cycle of this will ultimately give you the drive and taste to know what to search for, highlight the strongest pieces, and build from there.
Phase II. The Journey to The Voice
The grounding step that helps plant the seeds for growth is finding your voice. A crucial part of how you begin to start the path is knowing your why and beginning to develop it. Starting the blog in earlier times (2022), the articles that I wrote were more personal to me as it was an outlet of self-expression. This was a start to creating a steady pace and implementing strong communication through words. Over time, learning clarity over the emotional aspects have assisted in developing strong writing without prejudice and keep the sense of personality on the frontline. The continuous act of this will develop a clean direction to finding your why and shaping it into finding your voice. With this search comes the need for consistency, that can look different for everyone as well.
The momentum of writing regularly will expand your outlook on things in the world outside of your creations!
Phase III. Your Unique Style
Style is often a reflection of how clearly someone thinks.
Your tone, word choice, and precision becomes your signature and clipboard for reference. From the starting point to a stage of sensible movement, the style and language will be a layer of what your work is known for and a pipe to your being as a writer! In the writing spaces, connecting with other creators can give you a sense of the various presentations in the community. Style is connected to who you are, this will give you the edge and reminder that you are producing this work with your passions.
Restraint and precision are the two elements that will add on as time goes on. When you commit to keeping these steady throughout your writing language, you have your point of initial research in mind. The idea of style refines into something that will elevate as the restraint remains in place, and as the precision is implemented through consistency. In real time, you will begin to see your writing grow into a strong statement overall!
Phase IV. A Confident Stance
Showing up in your voice with sureness and self-directed learning is a key point. The daily conversation is structured with a ongoing mill of ideas. It is a matter of knowing yourself and discovering something new. While a formal education provides a given structure, it isn't the only path to developing as a writer!
There are various elements to enhancing your writing. This can refer to the methods of research that are mentioned in Phase I - podcasts, books, and consistency. In my personal experience, I have began writing without the completion of a degree program. In earlier times, it hindered me from having the solidness in my voice until I realized that the study of information is a given tool available for everyday use. The act of practicing writing, learning information, and applying it will be the stepping stool that you need to boldy stand in your voice. It is a choice to take that step and speak through your words with confidence!
Phase V. The Act of Integration
In the digital world, content writing has a isolated presence. It is uncommon, unpopular, and abstract to media trends. The matter of expression is solely based on your interpretation of the world, in a distinct way. That will not call for validation or virality. At the same time, those are not the driving factors for creating stories. It is similar to capturing memories in time - it is just presented in a different format.
"A picture says a thousand words."
The approach of integrating writing into a personal brand has been a different experience. A combination of the blog, social, and visual identity is a landscape of a process that widens the viewpoint of general writing. A way to consider these factors when making changes, becoming adaptable, and writing as part of a larger system, is staying rooted in your style, growth, and open mind. Remaining open to other points of views can create new lanes for your inital point of work. It is a great element to include in your style!
Burnout, Output, & Boundaries
As you continue to grow in your work, it can be easy to fall into the trap of burnout. New ideas flow, growth is seen in real time, a schedule can become a reminder list. A key thing to remember is constant output is not always a guarantee of strong work. While it is a motivating factor to stay at your best, you have to stay grounded in reality. The loss of clarity can blur a strong vision and clash with a steady momentum, ultimately resulting in overproduction.
In writing, overproduction is not healthy for the brand as it can cause the voice to lose it's structure. In order to recognize these things and stay clear of your work it helps to create a steady schedule of purposeful content. A reoccurring momentum of many topics can cause readers to have trouble with deciphering what your message is. Implementing boundaries in the stages ensures that you don't lose sight of your voice, and continue to push yourself out of your comfort zone responsibly.
With boundaries, you are able to:
- Choose what to write about
- Keep a healthy pace of work
- Remove excess information that may cloud vision
Discovering the many things that come with these 5 phases of modern writing in journalism can be a inspirational experience! It all begins with finding your voice.
