      The Legendary Twiggy

Back in March of this year, I watched an episode on Vogue's Youtube of Twiggy (Dame Lesley Lawson), the infamous British model. The segment followed her iconic looks of her era during the 60's that changed the trajectory of the fashion and beauty industry forever.

      Vogue, Twiggy

Twiggy was full of teenage-like joy as she reminisced on some of her most iconic looks during her early modeling years. During that time in London, fashion was not as developed as it is now of course. At the turn of every page, for every image, there was a memory connected to the photoshoot. That was what enticed me the most about the video. The way that Twiggy remembered every detail of the moment from the image that was shown, and broke it down to the viewers was pretty impressive. Given, the image was taken six decades ago!

Check out some of her iconic looks below.

      Twiggy in Vogue, 1970

In the image shown above, she is shown in a lace skater dress with knee-highs and doll like braided extensions. Though this photoshoot was not included in the video, it clearly displays the "dollbaby" facial expression and overall mood of the images that Twiggy was known for.

What intrigues me the most about Twiggy is her long standing eloquence that she unapologetically shows. May it be the way of doing things where she's from, it is very admirable to a young woman such as myself.

Shown above is Twiggy in a satin navy blue dress with a high thigh slit, square neckline, and embellishments on the arm/mid-section. Completing the look is a Gypsy headpiece with her crimped extensions as the hairstyle. This was simply stunning, it was a standout look for her time. She certainly stole the show that night. As she reminisced on this look, she brought a lightweight feel to this vampire-esque theme.

To end this show, we cannot go on without referencing the spiderlash look that Twiggy popularized in her era.

The 1960s was all about youth culture, rebellion, and experimenting with new styles. I mean hey, phones weren't around yet. Thank goodness.

During that time, London became the epicenter of fashion, music, and art with a strong emphasis on MOD style. That's your bold lines, geometric shapes, polka dots, and futuristic looks. Twiggy painted her bottom lashes under her lowline with eyeliner, the short and spiky strokes that mimicked "doll lashes". Mascara was heavily applied to her top and bottom lashes to create the bold, clumpy effect. Her natural doe eyes only enhanced the look of the makeup, therefore setting the trend for the beauty and fashion industry to build off of forever. At just 16, Twiggy was a real powerhouse.

I definitely recommend you all to watch the segment as it gave me a fun and interesting perspective on fashion from the model's eyes. It is a liberating honor to bring back to life the ones who contributed to the looks and fashions that we carry out today.

      Thank you!

      xx
