On Noticing Life as It Is

A Read, Life in Jeneral

Recently, I have been reading the book Life in Jeneral by Jen Robin and safe to say it has really got me thinking for my own development!

It all started with a visit to the library after a long period of time. Without any agenda, I just wanted to grab a few quick reads to pass the time by and develop my frontal lobe a bit. The beginning doesn't ask much of you, but simply invites you to notice what is already there.

When you stop and look at what is around you, you begin to be aware of all the great moments that are happening in front of you!

A General Intro

After reading the first few pages, I felt a slow and steady momentum.

I was able to focus more on the way that things can apply to my life. As a young woman, the idea of life organization is a great concept to practice and improve. Honestly, growing up I wasn't always the neatest room-keeper. It wasn't something that I looked forward to doing and it wasn't instilled as much. After awhile, that changed and I was able to put things together more and more each day.

That being said, the book does not demand how to "out with the old, in with the new", but moreso managing what you already have and how to create space for what's new. I could use some practice in those fields, so this came right on time!

Just an Observation

The great thing about picking up a good book is there's no urgency or instruction to follow!

Something that I have been working on lately, is having fun! I started going to therapy and it has really opened my eyes and allowed me to stop and take more care of myself. While that may not always qualify as "fun", it can help to just chat with another girl who gets it, you know? What are some ways that I can just be without a constant thought? Recently, picking up that book has been one of those things. This read in particular has reminded me to notice what's happening, how it feels, and letting that be enough.

Not everything has to be changed, fixed, or rushed. Slowing down and making time for nothing is okay too.

How It Meets My Now

I've been taking the time to read it in small pockets of time. A way that things have become a routine lately are reading after showers, reading at night, and even taking notes while reading. Working in the retail field can be pretty strenuous as the holiday seasons are rolling away. We go from carols and snow to pink hearts and easter eggs! The girls and I have been chatting about a great Galentine's festiveness and Easter jolly - the wedding season has been a lovely time as well. Taking that time and settling into our why is not only therapeautic but pretty easygoing to say the least. Reads like this can remind us to take it one step or day at a time!

A nice, slow evening right now looks like a great book, glass of wine, and a warmly lit cinnamon candle after a shower. Sometimes forgetting that you are reading is a way to escape the thought and allow yourself to fall into the book. After awhile, you've become a bookworm without noticing! Simply reading a page or two is enough to give you the comfort of self-care in a way that's pretty fun for you. It meets me at just being right now. It can meet us at not forcing or putting on extra pressure where it is not needed. Just being a young woman in her twenties, trying to become her best self while balancing life, work, and fun!

We've reached the end of January and are flowing into the season of love. I'm reminded by this great read to slow down, enjoy the now, and do what makes me happy! How do you like to spend that extra time?

I'm still pretty early on in the book, I'm enjoying that there's no push or rush to move forward. The first few pages are enough for right now!

Stay warm and enjoy your weekend beauties!
