Care, Style & Sleek Hair

Tips for Relaxed Hair

There's something very comforting about a fresh relaxer - the times that you look forward to when self-care day has arrived! It's the hair appointment that you've been looking forward to for months on end (even though it's only been a few days).

When it is high time to get your roots done, the chair is calling your name.

The sacredness of an old school touch-up feels like those Saturdays at the beauty shop.

The hum of the dryers,

combined scents of conditioners,

sounds of magazine pages flipping as the ladies with hair rollers catch up over sips of coffee.

It wasn't just hair, it was care.

The DIY Methods

Whether your hair is thick, thinner, or somewhere in between, trying different methods that work for your hair can become a staple in your haircare routine.

Flaxseed gel is a natural remedy in keeping your hairstyle in place. After a fresh relaxer, styled updo's are an elegant way to show your sleek roots and wear the style with confidence. With just two main ingredients of flaxseeds and water, it's an easy remedy to try and keep stored in your home! Check out a few different recipes below:

  • Benefits:
  • Nourishes, hydrates, smooths relaxed hair
  • Contains Omega-3 Fatty acids and Vitamin E that promotes hair growth
  • Smoothes edges with long-term hold and tames flyaways

After making a mix of this gel a few years ago, I saw an improvement in the way that my hair stayed laid throughout the time. While trying it on both relaxed and natural hair, it proved to help both textures during the warmer and colder seasons!

Spring is on the horizon and new, sleek styles are a beautiful addition to your new season rituals.

Soft, Bountiful & Volume

Relaxed hair is known for its sleek and straight look that is effortlessly styled, it doesn't have to be styled in this way at all times. The great thing about it is that you have flexibility to add some movement, swing, and body!

There are different methods such as pin-curls, rollers, and hot tool curls to give you some bounce and volume. One of the more traditional ways that was remembered in the earlier days were foam rollers. It doesn't use too much heat and gives you long lasting styles that shine until your next hair appointment! As a younger girl in my salon days, it was a pure joy of mine to watch the process of applying the relaxer, washing it out, and styling through these traditional methods.

In the new and modern day in age, blowouts after relaxers are a more common style to freshly straighten your strands and keep your perm lasting as long as possible.

Add the Stylin' and Flavor

This is where we can have some fun! As the Spring season wanders into the months, it is a perfect time to play around with different styles that are custom to you. Why? Well, in the spring time, Relaxed hair moves in an upbeat motion. It's a perfect pairing to a floral dress!

It catches light, lifts with mild humidity everso slightly, and rests on bare shoulders rather than textured wool collars. Let's look at a few ideas to explore this a bit more -

1. The Sleek Middle-Part

Hair: Freshly flat-ironed & tucked behind your ears

Spring Outfit: A scoop-neck top, high-waisted chiffon skirt (a belt is an optional accessory), neutral toned loafers or heels

A more structured look altogether will tie in your glossy, straightened style offering a smooth look!

2. A Soft Roller Set

Hair: Foam, Plastic, or Velcro rollers resulting in the bouncy heap of curls that will have you moving all day!

Spring Outfit: A midi or A-Line hemmed dress that is form fitting at the top and free flowing at the bottom, design and color is a free choice, a thin-strapped heel

This is a complete look that will have you feeling just as good inside as you look outside! The curls paired with a formal or casual dress can give you vintage tones and a cinematic motion altogether. When the hair moves, the whole look breathes -

It's mid-day brunch, a late afternoon sun by the fire, an overall glow!

3. Sleek Low/High Ponytail

Hair: Low ponytail that sits at the nape, High ponytail that is neatly gathered at the crown, a flipped or straightened endtail

Spring Outfit: Embroidered jacket over a silk cream/white cami, enlarged pearl earrings, slim jean or pant that cuffs at ankles, a pointed nude mule

Whether you are on your way to the office or attending an event, the style of this pairing is a tailored taste to your energy for the day. A ponytail can be the strong start to your outfit that displays all the effort for you. It's efficient and feminine, yet minimal and elevated.

Relaxed hair shines here with the smoothness at the root making the ponytail look intentional effortlessly!
